£20 for a DS? I'm totally going for it, even if it's the ugly fat one. Worth it for Pokémon alone which I haven't played for years (since Gold on Gameboy Colour).

You'd have to be an idiot, or very desperate, to even consider buying a pre owned console from game.

They dont test any of their consoles at all, and most are the remnants of some chav who needed the money for some weed. I've had nothing but trouble with their pre owned consoles in the past, and in the present, a couple of my mates are on their 5th and 6th returns respectively within a 5 month period. Various problems from overheating, to hdd failures, to disc drive errors.

On top of this, you have to remember, once they go out of business in a few months time (the very reason for this sale), should anything go wrong, and trust me it will, you will be left with a lovely expensive plastic brick.

INFORMATION ON BUYING PREOWNED CONSOLES FROM GAMESTATION:

As the console you will be buying from any on the above list is preowned you are entitled to check the condition of the console and see it working instore before you buy it, every store should have a TV screen behind the checkout where the staff can quickly plug the console in and test a game on the console.

You get a one year warranty with any preowned console you buy so the console can be returned instore at any point throughout the warranty and either sent off for repair (if after 28 days from buying the console) or replaced instore if within the 28 day period (I suggest if you find the slightest thing wrong with the console within the 28 day period that you return it for a replacement or for a full refund - this is your statutory right)

In my experience though if I have ever had a problem with a console with the year warranty and after the 28 day period the store have replaced it instore or given me a full refund (This is the managers descretion mind but you could argue and usually get the console swapped anyway)

    Limited Edition consoles:

I asked at Gamestation today if Limited Edition consoles would be reduced and I was told that more than likely as the company would want them sold, so I am guessing that you could expect about £20+ off a Limited Edition console.
I most cases with the XBox 360 Limited Edition consoles you get 2 controllers so they are good value for money.

    Extras:

Make sure to ask about extras, when you buy a console from Game or Gamestation 99% of the time there is a promotion where you can buy a game, gamer points or accessories cheaper when bought with the console (for example recently I bought a preowned console and got SSX Limited Edition on XBox 360 for an extra £25)

    Best Deals:

In my personal opinion the best deals from the list above is:

The Limited Edition Mario Wii Console (especially if it is complete) as they are quite rare now and perfect for collectors.

*The Mario and Sonic London Olympics 2012 Blue console with Game as the game retails at £29.99 on its own and its a great game.

PSP Base console at £29.99 as although there is no longer games made for these PSP's there is a massive catalogue of second hand games for this and they are dirt cheap so you will be entertained for a mammouth time.

...and finally the 160GB PS3 consoles at £129.99, alot of machine for not alot of money.

*PLEASE NOTE: The Blue Wii console is not backwards compatible so cannot play Gamecube discs.

UPDATE: We are now able to confirm the Ds Lite and DSI Console prices, with ths DS Lite's being £34.99, the DSI's at £49.99 and the DSI XL's at £79.99, all now added to the thread description.

Also the 3DS console prices have been added to the description at £115.

My two pence worth on this thread.

Seems a lot of people are reveling in the fact that Game and Gamestation are in a likely situation of going into administration.

I for one think it can spell the end of cheap gaming.

Whilst GAME and Gamestations trade in prices can be low, playing the system they offer on price beating has resulted in many an excellent return in store credit for myself, especially when Comet (who seem to be stopping their gaming sales) and DSG have their stock clearing sales.

With less competition on the High St, and CEX only trading purely in second hand stock there is less to pitch against one another with trade in prices and with an increasing number of games requiring a use once online activation code it is a move towards a further nail in the coffin for cheap gaming.

With very few independents and the likes of the very few Gamestop stores on the High St, it will be just left to the (also troubled) HMV to trade in any old for new stuff.

With Comet seeming to be stopping games, and Currys having inflated prices until a clearout we are heading to exactly what games developers want, a no resale value for second hand games.

Are you really glad that there is lessening competition on the High St?

    Bring back Electronics Boutique!

The company we now call GAME effectively is Electronics Boutique. EB (UK) bought Game out, not the other way around. They just switched over to the Game branding because it was a better name (seriously, I used to work at an Electronics Boutique and half our calls were confused people checking if we sold toasters or hoover bags) and Game had already opened some stores in Europe at the time of the buyout.

So, the ridiculous number of stores they have is due to this bizarre history; they bought out one competitor, changed all the branding, then bought out another (Gamestation). In my town alone we had five stores run by them at one stage, if you include the concessions in Borders.

Edit: I should probably add that EB UK didn't own the Electronics Boutique name either, the American company did, so they moved for a separate identity by keeping the Game name rather than EB.

One staff member on and he was sweating with all my questions. In the end I used my loyalty points and trade in card to buy 2 x PS3 Skyrim (£33 each), Dirt 2 on Xbox £5 and a wireless steering wheel £35....traded the 2x Skyrim for £70 gift card at HMV. Still have £25 on the gift card so I hope Gamestation don't pop just yet.

You've just swapped Game credit for HMV credit..?? If there was ever a case of out of the frying pan and into the fire...

so Had a long chat with the Manager in my Local, they are not accepting any pre orders, apprantely they have been told that they need to raise as a buisiness 8 million in 8 weeks, he also said they had been told about a possible takeover by Gamestop, but that was being resisted as Gamestop have said that they would only want 1 store in each area, not 1 Game and 1 Gamestation....

obviously I dont know how truthful any of this is

They're in serious debt, broke and can't afford to buy new stock. They're a specialist video game store that can't supply the newest games! Does that sound like a healthy business to you? Just look at their share value over the last few months. Most people buy their games online or in supermarkets these days.

7 Year old I would go with a DS, Battery life is good for car journeys, huge selection of games, and of course it has Pokemon. I played on the PSP the other day for the first time and was more impressed by that than when I played on a 3DS, screen was gorgeous. But for a 7 year old I think a DS would be best, psp has a lot of more adult games (JRPG's puzzle games, action games like God of War).

Im amazed GAME has lasted so long.......ther prices were always a joke, and the second hand prices (both for trade in and purchasing) were often more expensive than a buy new price from an online store.

GAME has for too long ripped off parents who know no better than to think £40 is correct and only price for a game, and second hanf price of £36.99 is fair. I will be sad for the good people who are at risk of unemplyment but will not be sad to see GAME absent from high streets.
